Looks like YouTube is being YouTube and pulled all monetization from 11foot8 (the trucks crashing into train bridge site/videos) and they’re leaving YouTube. Fuck you, YouTube.

YouTube/Google/Alphabet are the dumbs and have zero idea how to run their business without pissing off their users continually.

Youtube is fine with taking 98 % of the ad revenue from prank videos aka assholes terrorizing innocent people on the street and mentally and physically abusing their children, but videos of trucks running into a low bridge? That’s gotta go.

why is it being de monetized?
i thought you just had to have 1000 subscribers? (something like that anyway)
they have nearly 50k... wierd?

This is what happens when you have a monopoly in a certain segment and are apart of an oligopoly in an entire industry .

Reading the exchange is painful. The “creator” signed a contract that can be canceled at any ti me for any reason by YouTube. YouTube decided to do just that for whatever reason. The creator then acts like a child and accuses YouTube of essentially stealing money from them. Which is absurd because the reality is that YouTube had actually provided them a platform on which to earn money. The creator then threatens to sue for “lost income” which is completely dopey. Pretending these folks “created” something is absurd.

My guess is ‘ violence’ , or the number of company names visible on the trucks.

Probably because of the type of content. YouTube can and will revoke monetization from a single video to an entire channel for seemingly no reason whenever they want.

I just don’t see this as a big loss for the world as a whole. I simply can’t care. I like YouTube, it has old music I like to watch. I think using it as a main revenue stream without reading the contract they provide is probably a bad business decision.

I’m not going to argue YouTubers ‘jobs’, but when you’re used to being paid for a thing, and invest time in a thing to get paid, suddenly not getting paid and not being told exactly why seems to be upsetting.
It’d be like if eBay’s terms and conditions had some fine print saying that suddenly and for no reason they could deem your item value to be set to $0 after you already sold and shipped it, after you had sold HUNDREDS for a profit.

09/27/2018 at 12:22 | 1 |
It’s not actually like that all.
It sounds like they violated a term of they contract and as a result of the violation they were no longer monetized. It would be like if you signed a contract, didn’t read all the details, posted some videos, got paid for having a certain number of followers or clicks and then the hosting party decided you had violated a part of the contract you didn’t read and then said you could no longer make money off the videos you had posted on their site using their servers and their proprietary software.
But that’s just like my opinion.
Takuro Spirit

09/27/2018 at 12:25 | 1 |
The problem is, is that there IS no terms in said contract... there’s barely even a contract . You’re not told what may or may not violate advertiser’s right to pull ads, or even who pulled them.
I have a monetized YouTube channel, so I know what they’re going through.

And if they pull the plug on your channel, which sounds like it can happen at any time, how will you react? I imagine it will be in a more adult fashion than the lady who aimed a camera at a bridge and then went so far as pretending she created something. My reaction would be “holy shit, I can’t believe we got away with making money for uploading a traffic cam for so long.” Fr ankly I can’t believe someone else didn’t face a camera at the bridge and make money too.

My little channel, that’s been dying for over a year? Meh, I could care less.
If I had one like theirs, I’d be a little miffed.
They have a decent camera setup, REALLY good audio, and I’m not sure how they mine for the footage but there’s a large expense in keeping that much data recording day in and day out, plus it takes time to find, edit, and upload the video.
Plus there could be many other variables we know nothing about.
But like I said, once you get used to making money off something, to have it suddenly shut off for no given reason is bullshit, and its affecting many many YouTubers all over.

You can sue people for anything. You may not be very successful, but you can do it. And it may still be a significant expense and hassle for the defending party to fight the challenge in court.

How is it like that at all? If you want to compare to ebay, it would be like ebay saying they won’t post your auctions/sales anymore. Which does happen, and can be a big hit to sellers. Youtube may be more arbitrary (or appear that way by not disclosing their reasons), but they aren’t taking away any money that has been promised.

Its really basic.
They’ve made the same videos for years.
They’ve made money on those videos for years.
For NO GIVEN REASON, they are no longer making money on those videos.
And will continue to not on any new video posted.

I can’t find much pity honestly. There are the David F reiburgers, Matt Farahs, Doug Demuros and Rob Ferrettis of the world who use YouTube for what it is, a good platform, but have diversified streams of income and/or presences on other platforms and publications for when YouTube simply stops providing enough return on investment or something like this happens and then there’s the ‘Like, comment and subscribe!’ crowd who don’t provide value besides instant gratification from clickbait titles and therefore can’t just pick up a gig at Autotrader or Road and Track(or just focusing on running their real business ) if YouTube stops being a viable platform for one reason or another .
facw

Yep, which sucks for them. But that’s the weakness of relying on a third -party video host, especially when you have no agreement that prevents them from arbitrarily cutting you off.

If they didn’t have a fall-back plan, then shame on them. If they’ve been living paycheck-to AdSense paycheck, then shame on them.
I’m just saying I feel their frustration and its bullshit of YouTube to treat its creators like this. Especially ones that have been around in a niche market for so long.

My statement was a wild guess at what might have happened. There could be absolutely zero truth to it. BUT yes you can sue for just about anything, you won’t be successful, but you can try. A fool and their money are easily parted.

If there was significant money in it for them they wouldn’t. But their take is low enough that they don’t really care. And of course it might not even be legal action, Google is an advertising giant, Ryder or Budget or someone might have enough ad spending to influence decisions as well.
jasmits

09/27/2018 at 14:14 | 0 |
I understand the frustration... But still if it were me I’d move on with my life and be happy with just how much I managed to milk videos trucks crashing into a bridge that took zero creativity and minimal effort on my part.
I guess my point is that people who create worthwhile content can keep doing what they do without YouTube because what they create still has inherent value so some other platform will compensate them to create content for them and people who create videos of trucks crashing into bridges have already been overcompensated for minimal effort.

HOW AM I SUPPOSED TO FIND TRUCKS HITTING BRIDGES CONTENT NOW???
Pretty sure the tons of other clickbaity content stealers on Youtube can satisfy
your need. I mean, I can find a full page worth of other YT vids that steals 11foot8's content.
cesariojpn

09/27/2018 at 16:54 | 0 |
Probably this is why. Without a “steady” stream of crash videos, 11foot8 probably didn’t meet the 4000 hour rule. I mean, they update only when some moron crashes their oversized T
ruck/RV/Secret Military Prototype into the beam. And thats an uncontrollable variable; I think the rate is what, once every 2 or so months at this point?
Echo51

They will have to monetize in other ways, twitch for gaming content, patreon etc for others.

This is likely to just be youtube’s automated bullshit going around and ruining random channel’s lives, and it might easily get reinstated for monetization once the 30 days are up and they reapply. Even on the bad months they’re still garnering 100k views a month, which is enough if you keep those people on the video for just 20 seconds or so. Even less because some months the channel pulls 500k views or more.
